I was listening to Howard Stern on the way to work last week. Stern had invited the radio voice of the Democratic Party, Al Franken, into his studio to promote the Air America Radio network.
Stern, who is a cheerleader for turning all countries that support “terrorism” into parking lots, is now assuming a hostile stance against the Bush administration. Stern, who also is a cheerleader for letting Israel “do another Six Day War number and wipe out everybody who is different,” is telling his listeners, “You’ve got to vote Bush out to send a message as a Howard Stern fan.”
Whether Bush’s Federal Communications Commission and Clear Channel Communications, which dropped Stern’s show from its six stations across the country that carried him, are targeting Stern for his show’s alleged indecency or his newfound antipathy for the Bush White House is open to debate.
On last week’s show, Stern and Franken were discussing the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Both said they supported it. It’s interesting, but not surprising, that Franken, the host of the flagship show on the “opposition” political party’s radio network, would have supported the U.S. invasion of Iraq.
Many prominent Democrats supported the invasion but are now criticizing Bush for “lying” to them about why Iraq needed to be invaded. If only Bush had told them the invasion was to liberate the Iraqi people instead of peddling the phony WMD story, the tough-minded Democrats would have been willing to support such a humanitarian-style military intervention.
If Stern’s prediction/publicity stunt proves correct and he gets yanked off the air by Infinity Broadcasting, which syndicates his show, and by New York City’s WXRK because of severe fines levied against the show by the FCC, he’d certainly receive a warm welcome at Air America, which would tolerate his show’s focus on T and A as long as Howard keeps bashing the Republicans, at least through the current election cycle. -Mark Hand
