This weekend, May 22-23, C-Span 2’s Book TV will be broadcasting Larry Everest’s May 5, 2004 speech at the San Francisco Commonwealth Club.

Drawing from his new book Oil, Power and Empire: Iraq and the U.S. Global Agenda (Common Courage 2004), Everest spells out the reasons for the U.S. invasion of Iraq, the global agenda driving the war, and why the occupation has generated such resistance. Everest links the war abroad to the Bush agenda at home, and discusses how to resist them both. His talk is being run in its entirety, including questions and answers.

Everest’s talk will air twice this weekend:

Sunday, May 23 at 12:00 a.m. (Eastern time, i.e. Saturday night at midnight). This is 9:00 p.m. Saturday night (May 22) Pacific time, or 11 p.m. Saturday night Central time.

Sunday, May 23 at 9:30 a.m. Eastern time (Sunday 6:30 a.m. Pacific time or 8:30 a.m. Central time).

The talk will be aired again, tentatively on May 29 at 4:00 pm Eastern Time, and perhaps again several weeks later.
