Dear Sir or Madam:
I read your report, “U.S. Peace Activist Shot in West Bank” [Saturday, April 5, 2003; 7:39 PM] and I am writing to you because it appears that there are numerous factual errors that you ought to correct.
Firstly, American citizen Brian Avery of Albuquerque, N.M., was shot by the Israeli military forces. Even IDF acknowledges that. There is no dispute about this fact. Furthermore, Mr. Tobias Karlsson, a Swedish national observed that the IDF shot Brian Avery. Hence, it is unprofessional and incorrect to state that Israelis “allegedly” shot Mr. Avery when the facts are quite clear. Secondly, Ms. Rachel Corrie did not “fall” in front of an Israeli bulldozer. Rather she was brutally and deliberately murdered by an Israeli bulldozer, which ran over her twice. Again the facts are not even disputed even by the Israeli authorities. Thirdly, International Solidarity Movement is very much a global organization. It is NOT a Palestinian-run or Palestinian-backed organization.
You should correct these factual errors. AP should uphold high journalist standards. I will call on Monday to discuss this and shall follow up on this. Please make the appropriate corrections soon.
Sincerely,
Tanweer Akram
