Time to Think 'Outside the Ballot Box'

Join Press Action tomorrow, Saturday, October 16 at “Outside the Ballot Box: Election 2004 and Beyond” and get the lowdown on what cable news isn’t telling you this presidential election season and why working for social/political change beyond the voting booth is vitally important.

This event, free and open to the public, starts at 5 p.m. at the Lyon Park Community Center in Arlington, Virginia (414 North Fillmore Street). Arrive early—lots of books will be available for you to buy at tremendous discounts and get signed by the authors. You’ll also have an opportunity to participate in an extensive question-and-answer session with the featured speakers.

People arriving in town for this weekend’s Million Worker March should make plans to attend “Outside the Ballot Box” as the perfect warm-up for the big march on Sunday.

Elaine Cassel

  • Elaine Cassel, a practicing D.C.-area attorney, popular columnist and author of The War on Civil Liberties: How Bush and Ashcroft Have Dismantled the Bill of Rights, will update us on the federal government’s ongoing assault on our freedom. She’ll tell us what four more years of the “war on terror” will bring us under a President Bush or Kerry.
  • Mark Andersen

  • Mark Andersen, author of the must-read for all political activists, All the Power: Revolution Without Illusion, and fresh off his book tour with former Nirvana band member Krist Novoselic, will discuss the best strategies for helping the most vulnerable members of our society while remaining true to our ultimate goal of systemic political change.
  • Mickey Z.

  • You won’t want to miss the inimitable Mickey Z., author of several books, including The Seven Deadly Spins: Exposing the Lies Behind War Propaganda, who will deliver hard-hitting commentary on our suffocating political culture with his unique brand of humor.
  • You’ll also have an opportunity to win some great door prizes, including a copy of an Arundhati Roy DVD. The three-hour DVD includes Roy’s fabulous speech, titled “Instant-Mix Imperial Democracy,” delivered in New York City’s Riverside Church. Attendees also will have a chance to win a copy of filmmaker Christine Rose’s just-released “Liberty Bound,” a film that explores the question, Is the United States bound for liberty—or does it just have liberty bound? These plus other prizes will be handed out.

If you want to participate in this exciting event instead of waiting to watch it on C-Span’s Book-TV, join us in Arlington this Saturday.
