Love Me I'm a Liberal 2004
(with apology and due respect to Phil Ochs)
By Jordy Cummings
I cried when they shot Allende
Tears rolled down my spine,
I cried when we lost good Paul Wellstone
like I lost a father of mine
Rachel Corrie she had it coming
Sad but true, like she stepped on a mine
So love Me, love Me, love Me
I’m a liberal!
I go to the antiwar rallies
And put down the Patriot Act
I try not to buy sweatshop clothing
I use reusable grocery sacks
But don’t talk about revolution
I like free enterprise, matter’f fact
So love me love me love me
I’m a liberal!
Yeah I cheered when John Edwards was chosen
My faith in the system restored
And I was totally stoked
when the Greens kicked
the Naderites off of their board
And I’m all for a Palestinian state
But not more than our ally Israel can a-fford
So love me love me love me
I’m a liberal
The people who run China
Should hang their heads in shame
The human rights record’s appalling
Their methods are totally insane
Abu Ghraib was just an Abberation
We don’t derive joy from pain
So love me love me love me
I’m a liberal
Yeah I read Mother Jones and The Nation
I’ve learned to take every view
I love Michael Lerner and Larry David
I feel like I’m practically a Jew
When it comes to times like Afghanistan
There’s no one more red white and blue
So love me love me love me
I’m a liberal
I vote for the Democratic Party
They want the UN to be strong
And I go to the Bruce Springsteen concerts
He sure gets me singing his songs
And I’ll donate all the money that you want
But don’t ask me to come on along
So love me love me love me
I’m a liberal
Once I was young and impulsive
I wore every concievable pin
Attended SDS meetings
Delighted in pleasure and sin
But I’ve grown more mature, more pragmatic
And that’s why I’m turning you in
So love me love me love me
I’m a liberal
