  1. Perhaps you don’t understand that this is a way of life here in the United States.  If you had gone out on the streets of DC, you would have seen the 100s of thousands of spectators lining the mall and applauding the bikers who care about their brothers who were left behind.
Whatever your perspective is of the United States, it’s our military that protects your right to say and express what you did in your blog message.  You don’t have to make the hard decision of sending men into harms way to protect our nation, but you can certainly play Monday morning quarterback.
Oh, and it’s not your city.  It belongs to all of us.

  2. Naming the Memorial Day Bike Run in Washington, D.C. “Rolling Thunder” is quite appropriate! Rolling Thunder itself was also very appropriate and as a Vietnam Vet myself, I can only wish that we would have used a few “Nukes” and REALLY fried North Vietnam! It would have saved at least 50,000 American lives!

  3. You are quite right, freedom belongs to everyone. But millions and millions of soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen have served protecting your rights and your freedoms which you seem to take for granted.  I am sure that there are billions of people in the world who don’t have those freedoms and are resigned to that way of life.

I rode in Rolling Thunder after serving for 26 years in the Army.  If you had watched or ridden or participated in any way, you would most likely reword what you have said here.

  4. I spent more than 20 years serving in the military. During this time I was defending the rights many Americans take for granted. This includes your right to free speech, which you have used to post your blog regarding Rolling Thunder. It also includes my right to gather with others and express myself in the manner I choose.
Rolling Thunder is a demonstration to ensure that the government does not forget those military members that are Missing in Action, or those that may be Prisoners of War. As far as I know, there are no confirmed POWs at this time, but there are a lot of MIAs. They ALL need to be accounted for. I am sure if it were one of your friends or family, you would want the government to do everything possible to return them home. Rolling Thunder is also a means of remembering, and honoring those that have served, and those that are currently serving in the U.S. military.
I said at the begining, I spent more than 20 years in the military. I am offended when disrespectful comments are made about the members of the military by those that have not served.
During this Memorial Day take the time to remember those who have done there part to protect the Freedom we all enjoy. Especially those that gave all to protect that Freedom.
If you enjoy your Freedom, but sure to thank a veteran.
    Best Regards.

  5. It saddens me that I spent 20 years protecting your right to disrespect me and fellow veterans.  Yes you have that freedom and I must respect that.  I just wish you had the basic moral fiber to know when your use of your rights and freedoms impedes on the rights and freedoms of others.

Do you truly believe flowers and polite gestures would have stopped Hitler?
Do you know what Hussein and his regime were actually doing to their own countrymen?

Wars are horrid, but sadly sometimes necessary.  Not because we want it that way, but because others refuses to do the right thing.  The world would be so much better if we didn’t need Military, Police, Courts or Jails.  Do you lock the doors of your house?  Lock the doors of your car when you park it?  If get robbed you’re going to call the police you hate, asking them to get your belongings back.  If you are captured by terrorist I promise you will suddenly wish the hated military will rush in to gain your release.  Maybe we could just send them some flowers and ask nicely that they don’t harm you.

You sit in the bleachers and spout your nonsense.  If our leadership and country is so distasteful why don’t you go to Iran, North Korea or maybe even Burma and try to make a change?  Oh I forgot, that would mean risking imprisonment, torture and maybe death for something as simple as having a Christian Bible in your possession.

Not everyone agrees on conflicts we engage in.  Yet everyone should support our service members.  They are our guardians of freedom, whether you like it or not!

I have a brother who spews the same garbage as you.  I have come to learn that many of you don’t even believe in what you are saying.  You just love the attention you get by upsetting others.  I don’t even dare ask what you sentiments are about 9/11.  Hey maybe we should’ve contacted those suicide pilots and offered them some flowers and candy.  Why Bin Laden will probably stop trying to kill all non-Muslims if we give him a tour of Grace Land and a dozen roses.

Next time don’t disgrace the veteran if you disagree with his leadership.

  6. Can someone please explain - specifically - how any US soldier in Iraq or Afghanistan is doing anything to protect my freedom?

  7. In case you were distracted by something personal there Mickey, there was an significant event on 9-11-2001.  It was an attack on our country, civilians to be specific and it was orchestrated by a guy named Osama bin Laden.  Heck, he even acknowledged how proud he was that the plans worked better than he had ever hoped.  Our troop commitment was to topple the supporting government of bin Laden Taliban and help a new government take control of a very wild part of south Asia.
Iraq was a commitment to support our vote on 18 UN resolutions to make Hussein destroy his WMDs that he claimed that he had.  He setup his own demise and the Intel of numerous sources was convincing to all the nations that reviewed it.  Our presence in the territory now is to help a fledging government take control of their own lands.  Seeing as it took our top commanders a couple of decades to learn their own military skills, I would think it would take the Iraq leadership quite some time to get up to speed as well.
Overall, we are keeping our commitment to other nations of this world because we don’t cut and run.  There are quite a few “men” of our country who will take up arms and go off to foreign shores to defend our ways of life.  You don’t have to hide under your bed or attempt to appease the enemy so they will be nice to you in case they should win this war.  The focal point of all this is about our country, not about little ole you.

  8. Sounds like words spoken by a true liberal democrat. How sad.

Posted by tess_tickles from  on  05/27  at  07:41 PM
  9. Tess, I feel your pain.  It is the flaming liberal democrats who don’t seem to understand the sense of community, of giving, of sharing, that is espoused by the military and displayed proudly at events such as Rolling Thunder.

It is easy to get onto a soapbox and spout pet canned phrases that belittle the hard work of millions of loyal Americans.  The counter-argument goes something like ‘it’s the rich that are using the working class in the military’, of course there will always be an upper, middle and lower class, as well as a military, so this argument can never go stale. It’s easy to question why the military does things and blame bad events by ANY part of the government, including the military, on an administration and, by extrapolation, on a President.  These arguments grow tired, old and distasteful.

I am tired of both the Republicans and the Democrats regurgitating the same old drivel, tax and spend vs. big business - both arguments are true yet most of both platform are beginning to overlap.

But, the good news is that we have a forum where we can post dissenting opinions.  Thanks to the US Government’s pushing of democratic policies worldwide much of the world has the right to at least a certain amount of freedom of speech, much more than 50 years ago.  I can’t wait to see how free we are in 50 more years - IF no radical group manages to manipulate the system and bring down our system by having us fight internally.  As long as the US Government has, as one of its tools, the US military will upheld its oath of “Defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic”.

Let’s not use Rolling Thunder as a political tool to lessen our appreciation for the soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen in our military.

  10. No one prays for peace like a soldier. I now this first hand because I’ve been there.  I guess from yu perspective, slavery was a better alternative than the war to end. Millions of men died to free their fellow human beings from bondage. I guess you think that Hitler killing millions of innocents is not worth the war it took to end it.  I don’t know if you have any religion or not, but if you do, you should pray to whoever you consider your God and give thanks that there are brave men and women (who you find disgusting) who are will to take a stand and are willing to give the ultimate sacrifice to defend those who can’t defend themselves (which by the way, I put you in this category)and to give you the right to spew your hatred. As a biker and a veteran, I respect your right to express your opinion, even though I don’t agre with it. I pray that you’ll find peace in whatever is making you such a bitter and miserable person.

  11. I found it interesting that the very perameters I agreed to in order to post this comment are being flagrantly violated by the writer of this hateful and malevolent diatribe. These people are showing their respect and gratitude to all veterans. You have the right to voice your opinion on this matter, just as I have the right to ignore it. We both have these right because of the individuals who have sacrificed part (and in some cases ALL) of their lives to defend these freedoms. To understand this better, I would suggest you go to some other country and see if your inherent freedoms follow you there. I understand that there is a falafel stand for sale in Tikrit you might be interested in.

  12. Since you give no respect I’m sure you get little respect. And that’s exactly what you deserve. This article was not written by a liberal democrat, this was written by an anti american wannabee terrorist. If any country were ever foolish enough to attempt another direct offensive in the US you would be out there crying like a baby begging for these hard working men and women to help you. And as pathetic as your whining is, they would not turn you down.

  13. how is it that progressive liberals are eliminating freedom of speech, any and all use and references of Truth; and still insist on calling and viewing themselves as liberal? ......The writer of the hate message against POW’s and MIA’s is just one example of the consistency of ‘know nothing” “sure of themselves” mass of psychotics who profess to be what they obviously are the opposite of. ie ‘liberal’ really ‘repressive’. How could psychotics votes be allowed to count? Answer: they don’t and they won’t!(use them for anything of any value instead)
False belief systems generate disorganized thought patterns and invalidate any and all of the so called ‘liberals’’ conjectures...........posted by Foundation Against Organized Supression 7/20/08
