  1. Court Jester? No. This exposure of Moore is much needed; that it’s well-documented, intelligently written and a fun read serves us in a special way.  To wit, it’s a great contrast with Moore output.  Moore is not serving the realm...as was the case with the traditional court jester.  Typically, someone in that role would be tactful, intelligent and have the best interests of one and all in providing humorous moments.  Mickey writes for reasons that are foreign to Moore.  Moore is out for a buck.  Of course, he brings in people all over the place with his bowling for dollars humor, dropping beer cans to the floor along the way.  But he only brings them to the Doorstep of The Movement; and there he leaves them, howling with laughter and praising Michael for what a genius he is at blending the funny bone with the world’s broken bones.  Very few of those who blah blah blah about Michael and his causes take the next steps to become active citizens who can make a difference.  If you’re one of those who thinks that taking part in something like a March 20th demo is a big deal...then, of course, you’re going to disagree with me.  But...one of the reasons that those uninformed followers of Moore don’t grow as citizens is that they’re encouraged by Michael to remain at the comfy level of being Soundbite Citizens and Celebrity Citizens.  This is not to say that Moore hasn’t had his Moments in the Sun, providing good points, finding a way to make this or that palatable, and, quite simply, making for a good evening’s fun.  But that has zero to do with The Needs of the Realm.  There are a whole host of people who are supporting Moore as he traverses the country wasting the great opportunity to mobilize people in a meaningful way, taking the time to make important, discriminate decisions so that The Movement truly progresses, and doesn’t simply add a few hundred thousand extra bodies here and a few million extra bodies there for a relatively ineffectual candlelight vigil or two, backed up by a letter-to-the-editor and an exciting confrontation at the local coffee house.  All those supporters and Michael need to get hep to the fact that the planet’s going down, and that mean-spirited activity (comments on Mumia for a cheap laugh), irresponsible association ( a la Wesley) and inaccurate statements (a la the food chain) have no place.  In fact, for all the Moore hoopla...Michael actually takes us back a step or two, giving those who attend his Court a truly false sense of security with the notion that “progress” is being made by buying a book, etc.  Don’t wait for starstruck Personalities in The Movement such as Amy Goodman to put Michael in his place. Rather, you take the Funny Bull by the Horns...and do something like ask other activists to Boycott the Big Boy Too Big for His Britches.  Loving best in solidarity, Richard Oxman
