  1. While its true US foreign policy hasn’t always been nice, there is no other country in the world that has done more to spread freedom.

  2. Salutations to Ms Jackowski, and the gratitude of many a million Iraqis and Afghanis for your standing up against this madness being committed by your government at the service of certain companies ready to dispense with the lives and bodies of the American youth just so as to gain control over our lives and wealth, such as it is.

‘tty’; whoever, or whatever, you are, you need to read a little bit, not about history, although that too could help you; but about manners. What ‘freedom’ did US foreign policy spread as a result of your government overthrowing our legally and democratically elected prime minister in 1953?

  3. Killing Hope is an indispensable text book that should be read by every American about the behavior of their government that it might prevent some of our atrocities against men, women and children (and the planet) in the present and future. The fact that millions of people die annually from preventable disease and hunger are to a large extent the result of US policies in the world.

As an aside, Blum’s chapter on Uruguay (and in fact much of the book) reminds us that the horrors ordered by Donnie Rummy and committed by the US military in Iraq were not aberrations: “Uraguay 1964-1970: Torture--As American as apple pie.” This is from my version that was published in 1995 from Common Courage Press.

  4. Great article Rosemary.  You said more in seven (or how ever many) paragraphs than the Thomas Friedmans and the William Safire bloviate in a lifetime.

Continuing on with Reza’s comment, or Vietnam, or Cambodia and Laos, or Indonesia, or Chile, or East Timor, or Congo, Philippines and too many more to mention, as documented in Blum’s indispensable book.

  5. I just wouldn’t call it “creeping“ imperialism, but I’m a nitpicker.

  6. Thanks all for the comments....I didn’t like my word “creeping” either....actually, I had “galloping Imperialism” there and deleted it.

  7. How about out-of-control, abominable, soon-to-succumb to the death throes...initiated by us?
