One thing Team Bush deserves “credit” for is erasing the distinction between WMDs and a threat. In the run up, it was widely assumed, and rarely disputed, that WMDs in Iraq equal threat. It is way past time that it be brought up that it doesn’t make much sense to spend 14 months telling someone, I know you can attack me at any point but you just wait because we are going to go after you, when we get around to it. At the time, I suspected the plan was to provoke Saddam Hussein…

They lie all of the time. That’s what they do. The price of oil is right where they want it to be. The oil companies are going to pay even more in taxes to the US gov to keep this stuff moving along like a finely tuned engine.
China, Japan and oil poor countries will pay more to buy oil and have less money for other frivolous spending. They’ll just have to do it another way. It’s the world’s greatest shell game.
The US and the oil companies are no fools when it comes to finding a way for everyone else to pay. It is sheer genius.
It will eventually all fall down around them, but in the meantime, they’ll do what pays. This war stuff was a brilliant ploy for everyone to pay more for everything. It’s working for now. War is always for economic reasons. People get hurt, especially when the markets are involved. It would be nice if there could be a little peace now and then, but there isn’t going to be when billions and trillions are at stake.
