  1. Jordy great piece. Reminds me that Richard Butler, the great Christian-Identitry-white-supremisist-let’s-make-the-Pacific-NW-white-only-nut, recently died in his acquired home in northern Idaho. He gave rise to a violent faction of Neo-Nazis in the US, as I am sure you know. Now these groups have seemed to drop the Christian Identity schtick, and have adopted Odinism instead. That crazy folkfore crap. It’s like Viking lore. Anyway, it seems these groups, which are on the rise, have become even more radical. In the bad way.. They don’t have to deal with the notion of “forgiveness” and “repenting..” Traditional Christian values. Instead they are freaking nuts. What a joy. I hope, like you say, we can stand arm in arm and oppose these fools.

  2. Yeah…

To be honest I think the whole New Age movement is a fascist front.  Don’t get me started on Nazis and environmentalism…

  3. In communities where neo-Nazis and white supremacists are harassing people or committing violence, then I favor locals working arm-in-arm to offer protection from such behavior. But in many cases where the so-called anti-racist groups are active, the energy could be better spent confronting the state apparatus that’s doing much more harm to a greater number of people in any given week than the neo-Nazis will be capable of committing in a lifetime.

Canada deserves ridicule and censure for its absurd hate-speech laws. Further, its imprisonment of holocaust denier and white supremacist Ernst Zundel for “immigration” reasons for the past year-and-a-half also should be criticized by anyone who believes people should have the right to free expression (Canada has not charged Zundel with any acts of violence), even if you disagree with their views. During the Red Scare in the U.S., thousands of anarchists and socialists were rounded up for their political beliefs and many were deported. Most Americans supported the draconian treatment of Goldman, Berkman, et al. due to their political beliefs.

Doing battle against Zundel supporters and skinheads may instill a sense of accomplishment. But the time probably could be better spent attempting to weaken the heavy hand of the state.

  4. While I agree 100% with Jordy’s article I also agree with the importance of Mark’s subsequent comments. Unless one is actively engaged in the incitement of violence or spreading false information that puts people in immediate danger, people should not be imprisoned for essentially a crime of thought and or bogus scholarship.  Simultaneosly I of course reserve the right to call Zundel excately what is: a bavarian nostalgist and psuedo-historian.  In the end though, besides the aformentioned infringement, such trials have unfortunately given more attention to this topic than it is frankly due (and while decrying ‘mainstream’ history, this is certainly one viewpoint that is quite deservedly on the fringe) and simply made figures such as Zudel etc. martyrs for supremicists and those TRUE anti-semites.

I think the Chomsky quote (who has of course defended ‘revisionist’ Robert Faurisson and others purely on these grounds) is applicable in such circumstances: ‘If you’re in favour of freedom of speech, that means you’re in favour of freedom of speech precisely for views you despise.’

  5. The people who organized against Zundl supporters also are against the law under which he is jailed.

  6. To add...what Canada is doing with Zundl is like how America used McVeigh et al for the pre-Patriot Act, or how England uses the fox hunt protest to enact heightened criminal powers.  It is to dupe liberals who would have a problem with it for others beside Zundl or McVeigh.  Canada is cynical that way.

I think Zundl should be freed, and like David Irving, be allowed to be a free hated discredited idiot as opposed to a jailed martyr.
