Trial By Fire: The SHAC 7 and the Future of Democracy

  1. Coming to the SHAC 7’S defense, of course.  The question is how, yes?  Take a look at the plea put forth by a group out of Syracuse, New York today on Amy Goodman’s show:  “In Syracuse, community activists have begun a Free Rafil Dhafir campaign. And they are considering bringing their protest to the streets of New York later this month during the Republican National Convention.” How long is it going to take for activists to wake up to the fact that there are entirely too many criminal acts being perpetuated by The Government for us to fight them...ON A PIECEMEAL BASIS?  There are not enough people available in “the pool” to assign them to this...and then that cause...even if we could.  And the opportunity afforded by the rare RNC gathering will likely come and go.  The obvious response called for is...for us to move in solidarity nationwide with a set of demands in a setting that prevents The Powers from dispersing us or ignoring us or killing us.  THAT should be discussed with vigor in these quarters as we go about mobilizing what we can ON A PIECEMEAL BASIS in our little well-intentioned (albeit necessary) corners.  I ask readers to come to me for The Next Step.  Mobilizin’ Ox.

  2. I issued a warning to the animal rights community about four years ago that “hate crime” and “hate speech” laws would ultimately be used to intimidate and silence animal rights activists.  Now maybe people are beginning to see the light!
