While I certainly appreciate Best’s point of view, and it is well argued, and I am certainly against repression of all kinds, I am wondering why he considered it horrifying that animal rights activists were not allowed into England, while a “Muslim Cleric” was allowed into England.  Shouldnt’ both be allowed into England?

    I am glad he brought up the Malthusian and scary philosopher Peter Singer, who is not only into infanticide, but sterilization.  I disagree almost entirely with what was said, especially with the notion that animal liberation struggles are as if not more important than human liberation struggles.  I guess I’m just a species imperalist (I just made that up, but I’m sure some such use a phrase like that)

  2. Well argued points, still, though, I can’t help but find it a bit amusing that Dr. Best criticizes the specieist view of the world while espousing just such a specieist view.

    He denounces the view that humans are superior to animals, but from his comments I gather that animals are deserving of more protection than plants or microbes. More importantly, his views seem to be exclusively focused on the protection of vertebrates.

    If there is a hierarchy between kingdoms, and between vertebrates and invertebrates, why wouldn’t there be one within vertebrates?

    I guess I, too, am a species imperialist.
