Thanks for this, Mark.
Going vegan, I believe, is a powerful and essential personal step toward creating genuine change.

If a large segment of the population went vegan tomorrow, it would consitute perhaps the most effective example of direct action, as defined by Pattrice Jones, because it would instantly shut down a large portion of the animal exploitation industry.
Speaking of veganism as a form of direct action, readers are encouraged to go back and take a look at Mickey’s many excellent articles on diet and health, including his article “Direct Action on February 15: Go Vegan.”

Just went vegan a couple of days ago, and I feel very blessed about the whole thing. Been meaning to submit an article --which is basically finished-- touching upon issues addressed here; been waiting to do the finishing touches, but home computer not cooperating at the moment. In short, however, the business of “if” must be “played with” quite a bit as...the milk and dairy industries...on several fronts...will not allow us the luxury of waiting for people to come around...what with their long-standing, stepped-up assault on everyone. The animal exploitation industry must be shut down regardless of people’s attitudes toward their own health. The communal water issue and much else, obviously, hangs in the balance. Much else; this is a planetary survival issue...which I plan to address in terms of tactics in the upcoming “Pilger’s Preference and a Zinn Zinger,” promised elsewhere on this site in a couple of spots. It’s very frustrating having to wait on this, but I’ll touch base/submit soon, Richard. P.S. Mickey sent me a tape...which finally did the trick re veganism. Perhaps he’ll note “that Dr.” (who’s available on the internet, of course) for one and all...who was speaking on the tape. Yes, his articles on this, as per Mark, are invaluable. ThanksMark!!

Congrats, Rich. Uplifting news.
The doctor in question is Dr. Michael Klaper (http://www.vegsource.com/klaper/). He has many audio and video cassettes.

I would second going back to Mickey’s piece of February 15. That was a powerful article that encouraged me to go vegan. I committed to it then. I’m not there yet, but a decent diet moderate in mean intake, and fat (dairy) was much improved. Now I very rarely eat meat, and have cut my dairy down by 70 percent or more, all pursuant to going completely vegan. I do encounter blurps, mainly of my own making and lack of discipline, but overall I am doing good. One of the biggest benefits is no longer feeling culpable in the atrocities of the factory farm. As Einstein said, the single thing that could do the most to bring about peace, is if humanity would adopt a plant- rather than meat-based diet.
