This piece has a lot of great stuff to chew on.  I’m really happy about those points made at the end, in particular.  Just as Demme’s remake of Charade lacked the carefree attitude of the original (The Truth About Charlie)...we can expect something important to be missing here...as Jordy points out.  The self-indulgence of his Beloved (Hi, Oprah!) will also have parallels, I suspect. When we look at the many excellent points Jordy makes here (Helen Caldicott working w McNamara?)...I think it is safe to say that this article is one of the more convincing works on why Kerry can’t cut it, to say the least.  Yes, the nationalist rhetoric...whether it comes from Nader or anyone...has to go.  Many hugs, Jordy.   2. Thanks for the compliments...I actually really enjoyed Truth About Charlie aside from the original - the New Left Review ha a piece about the proliferation of remakes that should be online.  As always, thank you. 

    And I would support Nader probably, in the States but he is way, way to into “American sovereignty,” as is Kucinich, who accused a WTO ruling in favor of Brazil as violating US sovereignty, playing right into the hands of the neocons who have been claiming that Latin America is a haven for terrorists, and really want to go after Lula, whose gift of oratory and compromise has created the possibility of what Michael Hardt referred to as a “progressive southern cone.”

    There is a piece on Common Dreams from three or four days ago written by Eichmacnamarra and Caldicott.

Just as there was something “missing” in the Charlie flick --using a certain standard-- there’s always been something “missing” w Nader and Kucinich; that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy them all on some level.  However, what you point out is a SERIOUS something that’s not part of their makeup...a serious deficiency/unworkable world view.  And that’s why all writers and readers on this site must be taking part in extra-electoral shenanigans...underground activity, etc.  Nothing adequate will come from any of the candidates...which doesn’t mean there’s not a value in voting for Nader.  The Caldicott HORROR is even more of a serious matter...as it betrays how disgustingly fragmented “the protest contingent” is these days.  Best, Oxie

  5. I found your article to be very fair, even if it was more than slightly hard to follow. There were simply to many references to political figures and others that I did not understand. But that said it is nice to read an article that equally attacks both sides finding the good and the bad without promoting one or the other. I have my own opinions but was able to accept the criticism of the group I lean toward because you were able to put forth a logical and objective article. Thank you.
