Mickey says,”...We are where we are thanks to decisions made by humans. Other decisions could have been made; other outcomes could have resulted. Therefore, it follows that change is not impossible.”
Every time I say that (almost every day) I get beaten up by those who respond and say blame the media, the powerful, the politicians, the dems, the repubs, the CEOs, the guy down the street,...... I agree with you, Mickey. It is time for everyone to start leading an examined life. Every human action that affects anyone or anything else falls under an umbrella of ethics - makes no difference if one is religious, atheistic, agnostic, or anything else. The essence of ‘humanness’ is the ability to judge one’s own actions and to be empathetic in understanding the results of those actions.

mick.@ we r all hanging with u. post some observations about what texas culture is all about in your minds eye
Posted by richiedeadhead from florida on 06/26 at 02:14 PM -
Thanks, RMJ.
Here’s something for you, Rich: I just walked past a garage. Inside, a sweaty guy was smashing a heavy bag with elbow strikes...despite the stifling 101-degree heat. The only other object in the garage (besides the Texan and his heavy bag) was an immense American flag, covering one entire wall.
P.S. Dad is finally doing better. I feel confident I will be able to leave on Sunday and he’s on the road to recovery. We dodged a bullet, as they say.

Another world is not only possible, it’s inevitable. I agree with your statement Mickey, but I also think that we have fucked up the planet so monumentally that the coming years of change will be filled with hard work, struggle, scarcity, and blood. As Richard Heinberg says, “The party’s over.”
With that, I am celebrating a couple months off from money grubbing and can now concentrate on mixing cob for the walls of the cabin/love shack and keeping the garden in order.
I will have sporadic access to the internet so I’ll post comments as I can. Come the fall, I look forward to further thoughtful discussion.
Wishing all of you, from Australia to Shanghai to Astoria (to Texas!) a great summer.
Power to the people.

Hello, Mickey, Rosemarie, richie and Mike from a sunny but cool Daylesford (around 55F today).
‘The essence of ‘humanness’ is the ability to judge one’s own actions and to be empathetic in understanding the results of those actions.’ Too true, Rosemarie #1!
Have got to run but wanted to ‘call in’ at least briefly and wish you all the very best. Extra wishes to you, Mickey and to your Dad - and have a safet trip back to New York.
Oh, and I love Michele’s photo btw!

Hello Expendables. Dad’s on the mend and I’m looking forward to being home tomorrow night.

MZ, the news about your dad brightens the day.
Making better sense of propaganda on both sides is worthy. Like the democracy tool sez, ‘front towards enemy.’ http://tinyurl.com/y49gbb FWIW, I have seen more lefty stuff returning to basic forms: what do we need to do? How this happens when a Democrat (sic) is emperor is curious - is it because change is expected or due to stymied hopes? Good to see the LGBT crowd making a stink on the Stonewall anniversary.
Jon Stewart vs. White House secrecy maneuvers: “Maybe they haven’t heard of Brown vs. Board of Tough Shit.” (good for five full minutes of laughter)
TX Garage Sale: The heavy bag @ 101F is real dedication. ‘Elbow Strike’ sounds like military code. I never got into any martial training - most such places look like flag shops. I still look anyway...maybe one will turn up.

Mickey, good to hear your dad’s doing well.
My only experience of martial arts was a brief stint of Tae Kwon Do as a teen, coming to it late I struggled horribly with my hips; I doubt I could do a passable side kick now. The only flag I remember was a korean flag at our gradings. I can’t imagine it would even have occurred to anyone that the Union Jack should have been present.* There is a shame bound up in our flag (a symbol for the far right in the UK, and as Scots Michael would probably tell you an enduring colonial symbol) that seems alien to the US.* The flag of St. George is ubiquitous whenever England qualify for a football tournament. This seems to be something eminating entirely from tabloid newspapers.

Good to hear about your dad.
on the topic…
“the more you look you realise that there is no ‘us’ and ‘them’ out there. Just an awful lot of us.”
Douglas Adams
“ [INSERT YOUR COUNTRY NAME HERE] is a family with the wrong members in control”
George Orwell
He was referring to England but I suppose it could apply well enough in most places.

Just received from SOA Watch…
“MILITARY COUP IN HONDURAS
A military coup has taken place in Honduras this morning, led by SOA graduate Romeo
Vasquez. In the early hours of the day, members of the Honduran military surrounded
the presidential palace and forced the democratically elected president, Manuel
Zelaya, into custody. He was immediately flown to Costa Rica....”The graduates of the US School for terrorists have been busy - and we wonder why the rest of the world hates us. Why does the US have money to train terrorists but not enough money to train doctors and dentists?

My favorite 9/11 Ward Churchill quote is on topic here today.
“Well, really, let’s get a grip here shall we? True enough, they were civilians of sort. But innocent? Give me a break.” WC

Sorry for not saying “Hi” to everyone. What was I thinking? Also, I hope that you are having a good flight right now, Mickey.
Here’s an old one. Today seems to be a WC day for me.

Good evening everyone...RMJ, 12, There’s money for everything except for that which supports life and enabling a good life for everything.
On Radio Havana Cuba last night, the English announcer was very sarcastic about all the war mongers making arrangements for book sales. Who the hell would buy a book written buy Dick the Torturer or his ghost writer?
I don’t know how things are in other parts of the country or the world. The people in this area seem mute about everything real, or about anything, more than they usually are. So there’s silence. No one, even the so-called local activists want to discuss anything.

Thanks, all. I’m home and already enjoying the cooler weather. Will wrote more soon.

Me again. In the name of getting back into the swing of things, I just put up new post. See you all there.
