The old “if your not part of the solution you are part of the problem” fallacy. Why is it thought that just because someone sees and points out that something is wrong they have to have a solution to fix it or else the observation is not valid? Usually not just one person is going to come up with a solution all by themselves for anything. First and foremost, you have to get people to recognize and admit there is a problem before any possible solutions can be discussed, let alone implemented. Collectively this has not yet happened but many of us have our fingers ready to hit the reset button when it does.

We did get it wrong the first time. I agree rick g and that’s a problem, to get people to accept and admit there’s a problem. Around these parts, discussion about problems is almost impossible. ["leave me be with my misery, at least it’s predictable"]

If someone then does offer a starting solution, the listener must make a mental shift from their static, habitual mindset and too often this blows the listener’s circuits. Frightened at the thought there might be another way, the individuals brain, feelings, spirit usually shut down and they continue to march in place in quick sand.

I had a discussion just this morning, a man blames the recession/depression on ‘the people’ for not spending money. He was hesitant to acknowledge who created and reinforces this economic system, this habit of the very wealthy who block social change that would be for the better of all people and things.

So solving global problems for most people becomes perplexing, overwhelming, we’re left trying to shift our thinking so our personal creativity doesn’t die and enabling us to make further personal advancements beyond the limitations imposed by the control freaks and criminal authorities. If we can keep our spirit for life from being destroyed, with some chance, perhaps we can then help others when the time is ripe?

an interesting point was made on Maher over the weekend by a guest that wrote a book called Food Inc…

He said that we feed our livestock corn, which is not what they should naturally eat (grass) and we make them sick. 10,000 years ago with the agricultural revolution we went from eating a wide variety of plants, fruits, nuts, meats, etc to pretty much a single source of food: grain. We became very sick from that...it stunted our growth to the point where it took 10,000 years to get back to the height the average human was before agriculture. Our physical health is only one aspect of our suffering...as we all know...over the past centuries and millennium.

I think we got it right the first time...the first million or two years of our existence. Then we fucked everything up big time.

There is no doubt that we must see our current and recent reality clearly before we can come up with any meaningful and lasting solution.

I had this situation so many times ... and even this post falls into the trap a little.

You point out something obviously wrong and person B ... sometimes not even consciously opposed to your point, but trained from birth to react a certain way ... says “well what are you going to do about it?” ... or do you have a better way?

It’s an illogical diversion that makes no sense at all. In fact, if we take that kind of response to it’s natural conclusion we might as well just punch them there and then as it’s nothing more than a baseless challenge.

Of course, identifying the problems is part one and part two is fixing them together. Fixing them cannot come unless we are all clear on what’s wrong.

Also, more often than not, the same people who shout you down are the same ones who blab on about freedom of speech and freedoms in general.

I agree JOS...from my understanding, people knew how to live in balance with everything else. Then aggressive types wanted to control others, invent religions to control by fear and have might to back up ‘their stories’...and here we are still, today.

I’ve read some of his books and articles, heard some of his talks, and learned a fair amount from what he’s said and written. Hummmm....thinking about race and ethnicity here at Mick’s today. Reminds me of way back - I was watching the funeral of MLK on TV. Sitting at an honored spot on the altar was an elderly gent. As I watched, I thought that this man must be MLK’s father. It was only after a long while that I realized that the elderly gent was white. I realized then that I must be one of the few who is blind to race and skin color.

About Churchill - I believe that he - like the rest of us- should be judged by his body of work. When you come down to it, he fits in to a very select minority. It is probably less than 1% of living authors who dare to write the things he does. That less than 1% includes Mick, Bill Blum, and not too many others.

JOS...The “radical” side of the dem party? You are lucky if you know a rad dem. Up here, they are so afraid of being thought to be out of the main stream that at a recent health care meeting, it was announced that they would not use the term “Single Payer” because it might offend someone. (How’s that for a run-on sentence?)

Actually, I always thought that Nader was more black than Obama.

The thing I like about most Republicans is that they know they’re assholes, they don’t try to deny it, in fact they seem to revel in it. You can see them coming from a mile away. Democrats are more subtle killers.

About an hour ago in Congress they debated and voted on whether or not to recognize the Lumbee Indian tribe of North Carolina. There have been similar votes in the VT legislature about the original natives here. I guess that proves that some people still think that Columbus discovered America.

RMJ, 28, That’s a very sad photo and I feel intense anger toward people who would do this sort of thing to someone else.

From my little corner of the world, it appears some people will use any excuse to put Obomber in a positive light. I don’t know if it’s to compensate for their personal embarrassment for voting for the critter, for being duped again into thinking people have some kind of representation instead of just having politicians?

Some Black journalists don’t even consider Obomber black since he doesn’t seem to understand what the plight of the African slave really is and any political movement to improve their condition.
