  1. Murray Bookchin said..."But it was not until organic community relation … dissolved into market relationships that the planet itself was reduced to a resource for exploitation. This centuries-long tendency...,”

And the communities relationship was with the planet earth, its neighboring celestial bodies...and the community of other living, breathing, vibrating things.

I’m willing to bet a nickel, not one damn american politician has any idea of what Murray has said.

Water..read about Nestle exploiting Maine water supplies since buying out Poland Springs, and the people of Maine are getting nothing in return for THEIR water being sold for huge profits.

I have no doubt Maine government has Nestle hands in their pockets.

  2. Prosecute Nestle.

  3. Another brilliant post, Mickey!  Re bottled water: ever since I moved to Australia almost 24 years ago, it has been pointed out that it is perfectly safe to drink water coming out of a tap, especially in the State of Victoria.  Never mind: more and more bottled water is sold all over Australia.

And regarding the cost of water:  weren’t there riots in one Latin American country because water had been privatised and was now sold by a French multinational at hugely inflated prices?  The price then dropped, so protests can still work.

    Hello, Joe of Maine!

  4. What?  Nestle bought Poland Spring?  Jesus.

That’s a great Bookchin quote.  Phenomenal, actually.  But the problem is man’s selfish greed.  Capitalism is just a manifestation of that.  I wish I knew how to change that evil quality in people, but it doesn’t seem possible.

  5. I think Nestle bought Poland...and the spring came along in the deal.

  6. And hello, Helga. It does seem that other countries do the protest thing much better than America.

    Btw, it’s Columbus Day:

  7. Hello all…
WATER… one of my favorite topics, especially since I don’t have any. There is a lot of criticism of the purchase of water in plastic bottles; BUT, what many don’t understand is that for many of us, there is no alternative.

For 23 years, I have pleaded with the town to allow my street to hook on to the municipal water system. The government will not allow it.  The result is that I and my neighbors, have plumbing systems that fail because of the chemicals in our wells. We have to lug hundreds of pounds of salt for water softeners every month. We have to pay thousands every time our well pumps get hit with lightening which is a common occurrence, and if that’s not enough we have to purchase our drinking water in plastic bottles that make the water taste like $h1t.

I know where every water fountain in town is and plan my errands so that I can get a drink. Thanks for letting me vent.

Now I’m thirsty and unfortunately will have a glass of Poland Springs @1.29/gal.

  8. I hear you, RMJ. As is the case for most things these days, the powers-that-be have fucked up so royally that we’re left in the proverbial “pick your poison” scenario.

  9. Mickey...We are living at a time and place where even Mothers milk is contaminated with fire retardants and toxins. ‘Pick your poison’, yep, that’s what its all about.
The EPA is the enemy of the people.
‘Prosecute ‘em’, as joe would say.

  10. RMJ..9..yes the federal and maybe even local EPA’s are corrupt and fall into place to generate dollars from people. The auto/oil/epa triad of idiocy and corruption is one I am presently dealing with...computerized cars mean a guaranteed stream of bucks into the economy.

Back to the vote...my choices will be criminal A, criminal B, criminal C and criminal D...the only difference is the sign on the door they enter to unload their crap before they dump their crap on others!

  11. The simple reality is this: Humanity was given an amazing gift in terms of what life on Earth could be like. Instead, we got everything - and I mean everything - wrong.

  12. joe...about cars. I remember when you could get a duplicate key made for your car in case you lost the original. The local hardware store usually charged about 50 cents per key. I hear that it now costs almost a hundred dollars to get a car key made because now they contain ‘chips’?  Is this something else that should be uninvented?

  13. RMJ...12...I don’t know about chips in keys...the cars computer apparently controls all engine functions and many components for emissions monitoring...crap...so it takes the cars out of the owners hands...forces you to go to garage...VERY questionable diagnostics...large bill for car owner...and every mechanic is trained to think as the auto industry wants...THE LAW says this and says that...THE LAW IS WRITTEN BY CRIMINALS.

I have heard numerous stories about people paying for parts and labor...not to have the problem solved. A check engine light comes on and terrorizes the driver...something is wrong driver thinks...can’t look at this light...well it is only designed to create a dollar flow into this backwards economy that is backed by force and threat. The auto industry is as dirty as it gets and they play on, exploit the clean air issue, the safety issue...for dollars. Most car owners recite the theories, the lies about safety and clean air without noticing the hypocrisy of it all. Cars are less safe because they are built very poorly of cheap materials...but you must pay for air bags and seat belts...cars are not allowed to exceed certain pollution levels but no structures are changed to reduce driving, cars are more powerful, tires don’t last very long, the EPA says nothing about the u.s. government and their corporate allies, the biggest polluters...it’s all crap...the old con game...if they want guaranteed profits, create a law that says you must have this product...charge any amount they want.

An economy driven by billionaires and the person making $7.50 an hour must comply with the same economy...well, you know all the details here and it’s all crap.

What other laws will be created to generate more cash flow...perhaps a law that says you can only drink...EPA approved, bottled water...who will get the EPA’s approval?...the biggest and most corrupt companies...bottling their water with rock stars photos on the bottle...no one will question...only complicity will prevail...guaranteed!
