BBC's Stephen Sackur Backs CIA Torture

Speaking from the United States where there has been some debate about the merits of torture recently, I am glad that members of the Bush Administration have not come out in favor of torture as, sadly, I think they could win this argument if they decided to put some effort into it.
One big problem with these discussions of the actions of the U.S. “security state” is that it operates with so little accountability that even if torture were banned, it would just mean that the CIA and other government agencies would be even more secretive when they do it. Sadly much of “the left” has at least implicitly gone along with this by being so outraged that Valerie Plame was outed.
