  1. A good read, Josh.  Good to see your poignant observational skills applied on The Party-Formerly-Known-As-Green, and not just on the Dems.

I can forgive one half of the buy-partisan duopoly (the Dems) wanting to be more like the other half (the Repubs).  The duopoly, after all, is a two-headed beast that share common fiscal internal organs and benefactors.

But the Party-Formerly-Known-As-Green is another story.  They sold their nonduopolied soul to the duopolied devil, by choosing to dance with the seductress of ABB.

Repubs-lite or Dems-lite.  A partial facsimile is still a partial facsimile.

  2. Josh makes some excellent points in his essay, especially regarding the loss of a number of ballot lines in states across the country.  But be sure to heed his last two paragraphs as well.

There is, indeed, a grass-roots effort to take back the Green Party from Cobbian ‘half-assers’ and Democratic infiltrators.  Here in Michigan, I know of several true-blue progressives who have been moving into leadership positions within the state party - many of them who even supported Nader in 2004 (and they’re darned good folks, too).  And I just joined myself last week, with the intention of doing everything possible to restore the Green Party and help it grow in wisdom, power and influence.  I encourage others to do the same.

  3. I’m a former GP member/donor. Is the"take back the GP” worth the effort?  The “party” has lost its credibility & is probably in the terminal stage. let it die & replace it with something else.
The GP has followed the path of past movements & organizations; when they become a permanent fixture, the rot set in. “Leaders” careers, ambitions, take percedence over organizational goals.

  4. We’re stuck with the Green Party, it would take years to build anything else.
Democrats are all too aware of this and are waging a carrot (what a small carrot Dean is) and stick strategy (Mostly just fear mongering and emotional appeals). If we are ever going to get past the one party two-branch system, Greens are going to have to get a little Tuffer. Stop looking at this as charity work, a nice thing to do, instead of something vital to their self-interest and well-being ... take the party back from the Cobbite hijackers

  5. The Greens are salvagable.

  6. That depends, I think, on whether the Greens can do what it takes to get Labor to see them as their strongest ally and advocate, instead of the Dems.

I don’t think that anyone can have a major effect on the electoral stronghold that the duopoly currently holds, without a resurrected Labor political force.

I know many union leaders who have a hard time perceiving the Greens as the working man’s best friend.
