  1. “Some have called the NYRB, often an excellent journal in this writer’s opinion, as the semi-official voice of the liberal end of the State Department.”

I remember that from one of Tariq Ali’s footnotes. (I read the New York Review.) Does Ali also consider Abbas an American puppet?

  3. Hmm… I guess we’ll have to wait and see what more of the big boys have to say. (I suppose it’s pretty early still to tell.)

I enjoy your hounding Alterman about Palestine. I don’t know who was stupid enough to call him anti-semitic.

I have concluded that Palestinians (and especially their leadership) will always be painted as anti-semitic terrorists and am now beginning to look for some material by Palestinian writers and thinkers to get some of their perspective.

    Any suggestions are welcome.

  4. Abbas is not a Holocaust denier per se.  He admits that the Holocaust occurred and says it was a terrible crime.  Nonetheless, he has repeatedly stated and written that the number killed was less than 1 million, that no gas chambers were used, and that the whole thing was a big plot arranged by the Zionists.  These are all lies, and it’s perfectly understandable that the survivors, orphans and refugees of the Holocaust be offended.

You know Abbas said these lies, and yet you say “At worst, he was perhaps insensitive.” I’m constantly hearing complaints about the corporate media bias.  Here’s the Jordy Cummings bias.

Why not just face the facts honestly?  Abbas is no Boy Scout.  He has said some very unpleasant things.  He has a lot of blood on his hands, just like Sharon.  There’s no reason to whitewash him.  I think Ehud Olmert has summarized the situation well:  Abbas is not perfect, but he deserves patience, support, and an honest chance to accomplish something.

And what’s this business that the Palestinians have kept the ceasefire, but not the Israelis?  While there are improvements on both sides, they’re BOTH still shooting at each other on a daily basis.  The mortars and Kassam rockets are still getting fired, and you know it.  Israelis are still getting killed.  Let’s face the facts honestly, Jordy.  Honesty is the best policy.

  5. Its interesting how there are always people willing to adress me by my first name when they don’t know me.

  6. It’s because that’s the name you most often use, Mr. Cummings.

Maybe I’ll start calling you Lefty.

So what about Abbas?  I see three articles on Press Action about how everyone in the media lies and distorts.  And nestled right in the middle is your article.  Am I the only one who sees the irony?

  7. No response from Mr. Cummings?  The previous comment was right.  Mr. Cummings comes across looking like a Holocaust denier himself.  Shame.
