Articles I Didn’t Write (and Merry Miserable Christmas To You, Too)

Elaine Cassel,
Generally speaking, I agree with the facts and sentiments you so eloquently expressed in “Articles I Didn’t Write (and Merry Miserable Christmas To You, Too)”.
There are a few things I would like to say in response to your article:
1) Let us never forget that the majority of Democrats, Progressives, and Liberals are also to blame for Fascist Amerika. It is fine to bash Bush and Company. But the Democratic Party, its elite, apparatchiks, and mindless followers (voters), and its continually undeterred and increasingly determined march-to-the-Right, cannot, and must not, go unmentioned in the same breaths and paragraphs.
2) I’m not sure I can “blame” my fellow Amerikans any more. Most of ‘em never had a chance, did they.
“My country-corporation-religion-television right or wrong” prevents the masses from transcending their denial and herd mentalities and behaviors.
Am I frustrated and angry beyond containment or solace? Yes. But sometimes I look at those glassy-eyed “good citizens”, driving by in their jingo-magnet and party-flag festooned SUV’s, and feel sorry for ‘em.
Most of ‘em never had a chance.
This kind of reasoning, of course, does NOT absolve “our boys and girls” committing war crimes and all manner of unthinkable atrocities abroad.
3) I suppose it was the nature of the mail you were receiving which prompted you to write:
“...where were you?”
And
“...where have you been for four years, while I, and others like me have been screaming and sounding bells of alarm?”
Such expressions of professional-activist elitism remind me of that most repugnant and arrogant of liberals, Randi Rhodes.
The alarm is decades old. It was certainly active during Clinton’s reign. Unfortunately the mainstream Left was deaf to its music, because their fascist was in power.
The Liberal Holocaust: Imperialism and the Democratic Party
http://www.axisoflogic.com/cgi-bin/exec/view.pl?archive=75&num=12807Many of us rank-and-file working grunts do our part in the ways available to us.
We don’t have degrees in Law, Journalism, Medicine, Psychology, or other lofty ivory-tower white-collar pursuits. And we don’t have professional activist connections.
There is quite a lot of “inner circle-jerking” going-on with the privileged Left.
So let’s get off our high-horses...please.
People write to you because you’re in a position of relative power. You have access to ears and places that most of us do not.
And, I assume, correct me if I’m wrong, people write to you because they’re fearful, inconsolable, atomized...and perhaps not confident they can write as well as you.
On the other hand, I can understand your obvious frustration.
All of us who see the forest through the trees share and live your frustration hour by hour, day by day.
In solidarity and complicity,
David Emanuel

Let’s try this link instead of the incomplete and nonfunctional link I attempted to post in the immediately preceding comment:

“The Liberal Holocaust: Imperialism and the Democratic Party”
You’ll find it somewhere, in one form or another.
Enjoy!

I just tasted Elaine’s most recent entree. And while I admit that the ingredient of frustration is very evident in the mix, I don’t, however, taste the ingredient of elitism. This is not the first time that Elaine has expressed a deep frustration with the deeply rooted ambivalence of some of her co-diners, nor do I suspect it will be her last. I can empathize with why she’s frustrated too. But my taste buds fail to detect any element of elitism in the entree that I just enjoyed tasting. Then again, our tasting abilities certainly differ.
