  1. Some may remember that our current justice minister Irwin Cotler signed a number of petitions and legal documents affirming the ILLEGALITY of the Iraq war.  Now he is prosecuting American deserters.

“signatories included Liberal Party MP Irwin Cotler, a McGill University law school professor and one of Canada’s best-known experts on international law. Cotler told the media that the US could not claim to act in self-defense unless it was clear it was about to be attacked by Iraq. Cotler represents the same party as Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, but Chrétien and other cabinet ministers have refused to condemn the war as illegal.”

Cotler must be called as a defense witness, or recuse himself.

“Canada is clearly expected to acquiesce and serve on its flank of empire. “

Canada has been complicit with the American war machine for quite sometime.  They fund their pension plan from investments in weapons manufacturers.

The self-righteous Canadian public is the pot calling the kettle black.

    Ignorance is bliss.

  3. The public is not hypocritical, because our government does what they do against our will.  The government is hypocritical, because when outside power they critique the US, but when in power they placate them.  I think the biggest indictment though is that we allow Bombardier, others, to sell planes to Israel and the States.

  4. Of course Canada has been subservient to the warmongers in Washington for decades now. From Korea to Vietnam (see Victor Levant, Quiet Complicity: Canadian Involvement in the Vietnam War for Canada’s egregious corporate war-profiting—as is ongoing in Iraq) to Kosovo, Afghanistan, and covertly in Iraq.

Speaking of Canadian government hypocrisy, Canada is now fully behind the ethnically-cleansed (and still cleansing) state of Israel (see http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20041201.wxmidea1201/BNStory/Front/)—something Cotler has a hand in.

  5. Yes, something Cotler has a hand in… I am in no way a fan of his, except to use hisown previous position against his current position, to help actual human beings who are being faced with deportation over being deserters...I’m sorry if that didn’t seem to be clear.

  6. Said Bush: “If, 20 years from now, the Middle East is dominated by dictators and mullahs who build weapons of mass destruction and harbor terrorists, our children and our grandchildren will live in a nightmare world of danger. That must not happen.” Nothing about the nightmare world we already live in thanks to the actions of the only state that has ever - and repeatedly - used nuclear weapons; not to speak of supplying biochem to Saddam Hussein when he was our sonavabitch, or creating bin Laden, when it was convenient, so that he and his “freedom fighters” could resist the Soviets in Afghanistan in 1979.

  7. Today while checking out the web I saw an ad showing the heads of Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld together with the caption, “Asses of Evil”. Along with what has been submitted above, I think this just about sums it up. I have often wondered what motivated Nazi Germany to invade Poland on Sept. 1 1939 and why wasn’t it opposed in Germany. Now I think I understand the motivation, and this time to make it easier (and I won’t say “comprehend") the people involved speak English too. Sorry George, we aren’t perfect but we also aren’t for sale. You’ll have to find someone else to join your “Asses of Evil” campaign, but please, come back again when your diplomatic immunity runs out.

  8. Cotler update...I am in touch with relevant parties, and we may be at least making him recuse himself - and perhaps testify on behalf of the deserters.
