Mark, Thank you for reminding us of this important piece of history.

As someone with a big forehead also, I second Rosemarie’s sentiments and applaud you as well.

Sadly, the Greensboro massacre and the police involvement in/response to the killings never received a fair hearing in the press or the courts. Only a couple days after the massacre, the Iranian revolution hit full tilt and the tie a yellow ribbon ‘round the old oak tree saga began with the “hostage” crisis in Tehran. The Greensboro incident was quickly forgotten by the mainstream press due to these “more important” events and due to the media’s opinion that the lives of five American commies didn’t warrant great exenditures on ink or air time.
As the hairline recedes, the forehead has gotten even bigger over the past dozen or so years since the Big Forehead Express zine days.

Which reminds me, once again, about the cancerous effect that nationalism has on the collective rational mind. It’s a numbing drug unlike any other.
And until you decide to shave your head like I do, my forehead will always be much larger than yours, Mark.

Tammy mentions something about losing friends (in comment #16 attached to the BANNED IN THE UK article...bouncing off of remarks I made on that count. Since Mark brought up TIE A YELLOW up...I’d like to note that Larry Brown (who co-authored that ditty) was a “friend” for fifty years when I finally decided to cut the “silver umbilical cord” of friendship. I aborted late in the game, obviously. The lesson is that sooner or later the like must be done ‘cross the board to deal w the nat’lism, etc. It’s easy to have superficial “friendships”...just as it’s easy to have superficial “solidarity” among the left. I’m afraid the road toward “the prizes” necessitates quite a bit more “loneliness” than is usually admitted. Tammy’s lament echoes what I’m saying here. Please consider seeing my new http://sandiegomoon.blogspot.com/2004_11_01_sandiegomoon_archive.html#110087519762093753 as an offering up of a “final solution” of sorts, there being no “finality” to any of this of course.

Mark,
Greetings. It is worth noting that the defeat of communist-led labor unions here during the Cold War was backed by both political parties, big and small business, and many working people. With respect to the forces of destruction you mention, scratch a red baiter and you’ll find a race hater.
Great article, Mark.In solidarity,

Mark,
I have been reading PA for a couple of years now. I’m wondering why you’ve banned one of the regular writers from this site? It would seem to me that an action has taken place here that is usually seen on the right. If one does not agree w/the powers that be… then they must not be allowed to speak. Your actions do not appear to be democratic. Wouldn’t it be fair to state your grievance concerning Richard Oxman, in this public forum for all to decide the verdict and penalty if there should be one? Shouldn’t democracy be practiced here at PA?Posted by Crystal from on 11/23 at 02:55 AM -
Crystal- Press Action is not a democracy. It’s just me typing on a computer keyboard in my basement, paying the web hosting, web software and DSL bills when they come each month. As I explain in a comment on Jordy Cummings’ “Why I Don’t Support the Troops” article, Richard Oxman wore out his welcome a long time ago on this website. And then when Richard threatens “to go public” on me, I don’t take that lightly.
If you wish to be a part of a “democratic” website and have an “impact on [Richard’s] decision whether or not to write about political matters regularly in the future anywhere,” I would suggest you join with Richard and any other interested party and start an online collective where every website member, commenter, article contributor et al. gets a vote on every website matter.

OK Mark- I went back and read all the comments on Jordy’s entry and can clearly see that I would much prefer to be aligned w/the likes of Richard Oxman, Nader Rider and Gui than to stay here and be stifled. If people can not be free to express their individual ideas and opinions here than it is NOT a liberal space. T’was nice while it lasted. Chow.
