  1. Thank You!!I’ve been thinking about much of this today, and it’s astonishing to me,just how completely complacant, compliant and brainwashed the American public has become. Is it all the Prozac and Zoloft people are taking for their"depression"?

Listening to the call ins on CSpan this afternoon, all the Bush fans were glib, and saying how much respect they had for Kerry for being so gracious in his concession.WTF?No,he caved, pure and simple. If he had been worth a damn he’d have been ANGRY and done something about it.

Yes America, the neocons have managed to steal two elections right out from under your noses. If that is not a sign that this whole system is screwed and doesn’t deserve our “respect”,I don’t know what is.

  2. Today, John Kerry is a very lucky dog.  He lost the presidency fair and square to the dumbest man alive.

He spared himself the misery of having to do a job nobody really wants to do.  George Bush won’t, is unwilling and has somebody else doing it for him.  It is painfully obvious.

  3. Awesome article.  The American public is in dire need of some sort of kick in the ass after such a discouraging election.  If only everyone were as willing to stand up and do something, we’d be much better off.

  4. I disagree I don’t hold the American people at fault as much as I hold the ABB folks at fault.  Nader was in a perfect position to extent is 5% from 2000 in 2004 but starting right after the 2000 election the Liberals bolted then did everything imaginable to squelch his voice.

It’s hard enough to get ballot access but the ACLU who even defended the neo-Nazi right to march in IL didn’t even come to Nader’s defense.  When the American people really needed to her a voice the Liberals did every thing they could to squelch it.

Also the ABB illogic also neutered the popular anti-war movement and momentum.  Once again the Liberal intelligencia (the Nation Magazine David Corn) even during the anti-war march red baited some of the organizers.  I think it is time for the left to reasssess who their real enemies are.  My vote goes to the Liberal elites in who interest the status quo serves although the pretend to be the most upset by.

  5. While I read your article with interest and agreement, there is one point which never, never, never must be overlooked regarding the current administration. That is the fact that the Christian Coalition and its many mirror organizations have worked long and hard since the late 70’s early 80’s to get to the point of controlling the United States government.
They started with a decade long campaign to populate and then dominate local school boards across the country, using “moral values” as their platform. Now they have “their” born-again man in the White House.
Folks who have had the unpleasant opportunity to deal with these God Nazis at the local level know that there are very few lengths to which they will not go to win their elections, their battles and achieve their goals.
A few million votes stolen here or there is a small price to pay to ‘uplift the moral climate of America’ is the thinking here.
And that is just the tip of the iceberg.

  6. It is not a time to grieve or wallow in depression for the enemy is clearly identifiable and the battle remarkably clear and near.

  7. Wilson, your Comment #4 says it all. The ABB group could have won this election. All that they would have had to do was to support Nader. Even Mike Moore could not find anything in the Nader platforn to criticize, so he ended up making ad hominem attacks on Nader right before the election. Now might be the right time to energize around the Nader Platform.  PEACE, rosemarie

  8. I see an interesting parallel here.  You say (quite correctly) that if Bush rigs or cancels the election, it’s fascism.

Several times today, I’ve seen references to Yasser Arafat as the legitimate, democratically elected president of the Palestinian Authority.  But Arafat was elected to a three year term that ended in 1999.  He cancelled the 1999 elections and has since held onto power by force.

What kind of double standard are we applying to the Arab/Muslim world?  We allow their leaders to get away with things we would not allow our own leaders to get away with.  Not only do we not object, we even support them.  It’s no wonder the Arab masses despise us.  We on the left are at least as guilty in this regard as anyone else.

  9. How are “we” allowing Arafat and the Palestinians get away with anything? It’s not up to us to decide how they run their lives. Our focus should be on our own government and how it believes it has the God-given right to invade other nations.

As for how the press describes Arafat or any leader around the world, why do you seem shocked they would get it wrong? The press, particularly the U.S. press, uses double standards all the time in their descriptions of world leaders. While today they may be referring to Arafat as the “democratically elected” leader of the Palestinians (probably because he’s on his death bed), typically his name isn’t far removed from the word “terrorism” in press reports. And when was the last time you saw Israel accurately described as a terrorist state or apartheid state in a mainstream press report?

  10. There was a post-election anti-Iraq War rally in downtown Chicago on November 3, one day after the election, which had been planned before the elction, no matter who won.  There was an impressive, enthusiastic crowd of 750-1,000.  It marched through the streets at rush hour.

  11. It is a pleasure to call you, WB (4) and Rosemarie (7), my new virtual friends… who accurately see Ralph’s true value for what it is.
