IT,S QUITE OBVIOUS YOU CARE NOTHING ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE,S LIFES. IF YOU THINK THAT GIVING A BUNCH OF IRAQ,S THEIR FREEDOM IS WORTH ALMOST 1100 YOUNG BRAVE AMERICANS AND WASTING 200 BILLION DOLLARS IS OK, THEN YOU ARE AS DUMB AS GEORGE BUSH OR WORSE JOHN KERRY HAD THE BRAVERY TO FIGHT FOR THIS COUNTRY EVEN WHEN HE THOUGHT IT WAS WRONG AS I DID. PEOPLE LIKE YOU LIVE IN A FANTACY WORLD. WAKE UP KERRY IS MUCH SMARTER MORE EVERYTHING THAT BUSH A NOTHER COMBAT WOUNDER VIETNAM VET FROM MISSOURI

the comment from Paul Eaton from missouri on 10/14 at 2:55 was retarted!! for one thing he can’t even spell correctly! In my opinion he is as dumb as John Kerry who can’t even make up his mind on whether he is or isn’t for the war!!! George W. Bush is an awesome man who is going to lead our country through this hard time!! At least he is taking action. Iraq became our concern, became our responsibility and our business when they came to our “turf” and bombed us on September 11th!!! They need to be stopped and Bush is the man to do it!! And if u want to elect Kerry and let the terroists win and possibly threaten and fulfill their plots again then ya’ll are not any better then Iraq!!

That was not the type of explanation I was expecting.

WHY DO I BOTHER IF YOU KNEW WHAT YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT YOU WOULD KNOW IRAQ HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH 9/11 THAT WAS OSAMA BIN LADIN ASK SOMEONE THAT KNOWS THE FACTS IF YOU NEED TO. YOUR A KID SO I CAN’T REALLY ARGUE WITH YOU. YOU PROBABLY JUST LISTEN TO YOUR PARENTS. LIKE MOST REPUBLLICIANS. WAR IS NEVER THE ANSWER UNLESS THERE IS NO OTHER WAY, I HAVE SEEN PEOPLE BLOWN APART WITH MY OWN EYES. NOT ON TV. IT’S REALLY DIFFERENT. MAYBE IF BUSH GETS IN YOU WILL GET DRAFTED AND GET A CHANCE TO GO TO IRAQ AND DIE FOR YOUR COUNTRY, I HOPE NOT, BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH I THINK YOU ARE A DUMB KID I STILL WOULDN,T WANT TO SEE YOU IN A COFFIN LIKE I SAW SOME OF MY BEST FRIENDS. SO YOU THINK, I’M 56 YEARS OLD I DON,T KNOW IT ALL LIKE YOU DO. I AM VOTING FOR JOHN KERRY I HOPE YOU RETHINK AND DO THE SAME. AND I,M NOT A VERY GOOD SPELLER IT’ SBEEN A LONG TIME SINCE I WAS IN SCHOOL. --PAUL EATON A 100% DISABLED VETERAN IN MISSOURI

It’s all very instructive, Bronco. While people go back and forth --albeit with more style and sense than afforded here-- on this and that position in progressive quarters...nothing much changes. Because one cannot reason a man out of what he wasn’t reasoned into...concerned citizens who do hold a sane view, a “necessary” view, if you will, must find a way to rise above the mere talk...and do something that will force citizens to rethink and/or refeel their positions. I invite you to review my last few articles on this site, and provide feedback; we are trying to take direct action that will “stop business as usual” in this country, which includes the inane dialogue that envelopes our days morning to night. A LOT of more refined dialogue than what appears in the commentary attached to this article doesn’t amount to much more than what you see above. Blessings in solidarity, Richard Oxman

I might give it a thought, after you convince me the Socialistic regimes (ie. normally the work of the Progressives) lead to a better solution. While the issue is understandably broader and less simplistic than the timing allows me right now to elaborate, I would like to point out the Soviet Union’s failure to adhere to the Socialistic values and principles, ie. equality for all, govt responsibility for all, etc. It is my belief that restrained capitalism is the most humanly-driven system created, topped with good values that are IMO aided by this system and our own responsibility.
Here are just a few pluses that are the works of the business/capitalistic model : the world poverty is on decline, the health care is just of better quality if it’s not wholly government sponsored, and it gives all of us an OPPORTUNITY, not a handout, to excel.
I never argued the corporate “machine” as you call it, is the perfect system, however I’m not convinced there is a better way in practice.

Richard,
I couldn’t agree more. Discussing the necessity of religion, a respectful christian once told me that for someone to believe in God, something has to happen to them to make them believe. Makes sense. And I heard Nader tell a college student who said he plans on voting for Kerry, “I’ve been decieved too many times by Democrats.” It’s interesting to see that during ‘the most important election in history’ most people are still making the most common mistake in American history. That is, trusting politicians.
My posting was just a joking response to my confusement by the ALLCAPS, pro-Kerry statement made by the veteran, and then to the obviously more disabled(at least mentally) young Republican who should clearly be serving in the military based on his opinion. Seriously, go enlist if you feel that passionate about the war. There are plenty of people on the frontline who wouldn’t be there if they could afford college.
And as for Steve-o, the last group of people who deserve credit for the decline in world poverty is the capitalist business class. And where healthcare is concerned, America has tried everything aside from a European-style, universal, socialized system.word of advice: DEMAND THE IMPOSSIBLE

Restrained capitalism? No oxymorons for The Ox on these issues, please. There are other “systems” which have done quite well...in the past...other than the limited ones that fall w/i Steve’s parameters for discussion. However, I get the feeling that indigenous history AND thought would be discounted out-of-hand by Steve; non-European traditions, ways are quite capable of doing quite well today...if given breathing room. It’s quite difficult, however, when “restrained capitalism” keeps taking back, say, Native American landbase...as it discovers this or that resource it just must have for some arrogant purpose or other. Decline in poverty? A source for such an absurd statement is called for, AND definitions of terms are in order, at the very least. That’s to be as polite and “restrained” as I can be under these circumstances. The fight is NOT between the two Giants you put on the stage, but, rather between Industry/Science revered as a God...and alternatives that exist...and have existed for quite some time. Indigenously yours, Richard
