  1. Thank You GLORIOUS 500.  I see only 2 alternatives. Either get Nader in the Debates and/or convince Kerry to drop out of the race.  If there are other other alternatives out there, let’s hear them.  PEACE, rosemarie

  2. Alterman makes me sick.  This article’s attacks on him are right on.  He is a whiny, arrogant, obnoxious, elitist twit.  He is racist, elitist, watered-down white liberalism at its worst.

  3. Bravo to the Glorious 500. With all of the brilliant articles (Josh, Greg Bates, Todd Chretien et al) being articulated at pressaction and Counterpunch regarding Nader and the Dumb Dems, why isn’t something more dynamic happening in American politics? Maybe it is but no media coverage.

Alex Cockburn’s column today was right on the money-- Nader should get out of the courtrooms and into the real action, visit Palestine and Iraq and highlight these issues, etc. Cockburn is an agnostic about 911 (he buys the official story about boxcutters I guess), so forgot to mention that Nader should also show solidarity with the victims in order to rally bipartisan support for a thorough investigation into 911, not the whitewash the government recently carried out.

  4. Hey, what ever happened to that Christopher Hitchens anyway? What a great guy he was eh? Did he suffer creeping senile dementia like his hero George Bush and just fade away? The Nation will never be the sane.

  5. That sonofabitch isn’t knocked out. He’s been drinking the goddamn’ Kool-Aid.

    Kool-Aid, Kool-Aid, tastes great.

  6. Alterman on civilian casualties attached to Israeli assassinations of alleged Hamas membersds “tough luck”

Alterman on Arthur Schlesinger: he’s my hero.  Alterman is planning to write a big fat book on the history of “american librulism” based on his hero Schlesinger who was a keen backer of the stupid and detrimental cold war.

Alterman can be feisty sometimes, but he’s truly a negative influence.

  7. Thanks for saying what I would have liked to for some time.  Alterman is a contemptible sonavabitch.  After four decades of public service of the first degree the little twit has the nerve to call Nader a self-absorbed egotist.  Calvin Trillin about two months ago on The Daily Show had the nerve to say much the same thing about Nader.  I almost renewed my subscription to The Nation last week after having previously discontinued it in disgust at their ABB politics.  The thought of having to endure the fury of reading Alterman every fortnight was finally the deciding straw against subscribing.

  8. IMO pretty much the only thing worth reading in the Nation nowadays is Cockburn’s column, which itself is starting to show up less and less.  And you can get what he writes on Counterpunch, so I say save your money.

The Nation has really changed over these past few years.  They have probably seen their readership increase to a significant degree due to the Bush presidency, and now they’re trying to pander to their new audience by watering down the content more and more with each issue (kind of like Michael Moore has done).

  9. Alterman was right. Nader has no chance competing for presidency. He only brings catastrophy to Democrats. He is an extreme isolated sided doll, that no one pays attention to him, but his puppets.

  10. The Democrats might could use some catrastrophe is it?  For they might as well be Republicans.  Kerry can’t make up his mind what he thinks.  What worse could Kerry be than Bush, or vice-versa?  They’re twins right down to the same secret society, and Kerry incidentally much wealthier than Bush.  Nader at least represents values and ideals, indeed a lot of them.  For punk journalist Alterman to sling the slurs he did AT 45 YEARS OF PUBLIC SERVICE is reprehensible to put it kindly.  Ralph’s a veritable slate of progressive values.  There’s something seriously wrong about such a world where Nader is the object of endless calumny and polling a pathetic two-percent!
